Cathlyn Massingham (Underwood) was born in Pietermaritzburg, and grew up in Kloof, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Cathlyn moved to Cape Town to study in 2000. After completing a year at Ruth Prowse School of Art, she then studied BA(FA) UCT graduating with Honours degree 1st class Major in Printmaking, and is on the Deans Merit list for 2004.
Cathlyn enjoys working in a variety of mediums, as printmaker, painter, and pastellist. Cathlyn has volunteered seasons of her time to painting murals, the set-up of group exhibitions and events; now as a mom of two she is working as a Freelance Visual Artist and taking commissions. Cathlyn’s current work is driven by newfound inspiration and a moving change in style and direction.
