Anab (aka Silly Arty) has been drawing all her life while growing up on the Cape Flats, but took to painting portraits in acrylic a few years ago. Her current body of work is based on the Social media trend of Selfies where she has turned the faces into masks so as to convey the element of fake reality which people portray to the world.
Anab’s paintings also incorporate mixed media which adds a tactile third dimension to her work. “The beauty of Self-Expression” which allows us to speak of which we are inspired by. It is reality seen, but not lived nor felt, yet brought to offer us life. One could consider Art as a form of Therapy. Art is a motivation to others that allows us to be out spoken, and dance away into our imagination.
Every artist plays a game of hide and seek, seeking the inner creativity that lies within their souls. She sees art in her daily life. In the eyes of the unknown they wish to tell their story, but might be too afraid to. She sees it and allows herself to express the stories in the form of an art piece. Art is a friend, a friend that lives within us, just like a picture tells a thousand words, art tells a thousand stories.
