Charl Marais is a practicing architect from Cape Town. He has always been a keen observer of the built environment and has been sketching (mostly) buildings for as long as he can remember. This is a way to capture the feeling of the moment and character of the building, while also maintaining a trained eye with regards to proportions and balance. As an architect that offers uniquely detailed projects, this discipline has served him well. His love for sketching and art has led him to expand into watercolors and he has been steadily growing as a watercolor artist. His work is mainly focused on capturing the beauty, mystery, drama and romance that is often locked up in everyday scenes of buildings, towns and public spaces. All his work is from his own lived experiences through his travels or his constant observations of his hometown.
