In Electrical Substation, Carla Chait captures the raw visual language of Johannesburgās streets through a monochromatic depiction of a graffiti-covered substation in Greenside. Stark contrasts and fragmented linework turn the industrial structure into a layered urban portrait, where infrastructure becomes canvas and the city reveals its human imprint.
The artwork explores the collision between permanence and intervention, architecture built for function transformed through spontaneous acts of expression. Chaitās use of ink intensifies the graphic nature of the scene, flattening light and shadow into bold abstract forms while preserving the recognisable texture of the city.
Both architectural and atmospheric, the work resonates with collectors drawn to urban contemporary aesthetics, street culture, and minimal monochrome interiors.
